 Some Selected Hadiths of  Prophet Muhammad



Knowledge

If anyone removes (one of the) anxieties of this world from a believer, Allah will remove (one of the) anxieties from him on the Day of Resurrection; if one smoothes the way for one who is destitute, Allah will smooth the way for him in this world and the next; and if anyone conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the next. Allah helps a man as long as he helps his brother. If anyone pursues a path in search of knowledge Allah will thereby make easy for him a path to paradise. (Muslim)

Spending

Do not consider any act of kindness insignificant, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face. (Muslim).

Insolvency and Respite

He who grants a respite to one who is in straightened circumstances or who remits his debt, will be saved by Allah from the anxieties of the Day of Resurrection.(Muslim)


Rights of Wives

Among the believers who show most perfect faith are those who have best disposition and are kindest to their families. (Tirmidhi)



Retaliation

 Shedding of blood will be the first matter about which judgement will be given on the Day of Resurrection.
(Bukhari, Muslim)

 If anyone kills a man who belongs to a Non-Muslim community with whom a treaty of peace has been made, or a member of protected communities will not experience the fragrance of paradise.
(Bukhari)

Hospitality

 He who believes in Allah and the Last Day should honour his guest; he who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not annoy his neighbours; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day should say what is good or keep silent.
(Bukhari, Muslim)

 It is part of the Sunna that a man should accompany his guest to the door of the house.
(Ibn Majah, Baihaqi)

 He who believes in Allah and the Last Day should honour his guest. Provisions for the road are what will serve for a day and night; hospitality extends for three days; what goes beyond that is Sadqa; and it is not allowable that a guest should stay till he makes himself an encumbrance.
(Bukhari, Muslim)



Visiting the Sick

 Feed the hungry, visit the sick and free the captive.(Bukhari)

 When you visit an invalid tell him to make a supplication for you, for his supplication is like of the angels.(Ibn Majah)

 A Muslim has five duties towards another Muslim; to return a salutation, visit the sick, follow funerals, accept an invitation and say 'Allah have mercy on you' when one sneezes. (Bukhari, Muslim)



Salutations

 There are six good qualities which one believer should display to another; he should visit him when he is ill, be present when he dies, accept his invitation when he gives one, salute him when he meets him, say 'Allah have mercy on you' when he sneezes and act sincerely towards him whether he is absent or present. (Nasai)

 The Allah's messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed a mixed company of Muslims, polytheists who worshipped idols and Jews and he gave them a salutation. (Bukhari, Muslim)

 Those who are nearest to Allah are they who are first to give a salutation. (Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud)

 When you go into your family, give a salutation. It will be a blessing both to you and to your family. (Tirmidhi)



Goodness and the cementing of Relationship

 One who cuts ties of relationship will not enter paradise. (Bukhari, Muslim)

 The Lord's good pleasure results from a father's good pleasure, and the Lord's displeasure results from the father's displeasure. (Tirmidhi)

 "What rights can parents demand from their children?" He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "They are your paradise and your hell." (Ibn Majah)

 By Him in Whose hand my soul is, a man does not believe till he likes for his brother what he likes for himself.
(Bukhari, Muslim)

 Those who are merciful have mercy shown them by the Compassionate One, if you show mercy to those who are in the earth, He Who is in heaven will show mercy to you.(Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

 He does not belong to us who does not show mercy to our young ones and respect to our old ones, who does not recommend what is reputable and prohibit what is disreputable.(Tirmidhi)

 The best house among the Muslims is the one which contains an orphan who is well treated, and the worst house among the Muslims is the one which contains an orphan who is badly treated. (Ibn Majah)

 The believer is not the one who eats his fill when the neighbour beside him is hungry. (Baihaqi)

 Touch an orphan's head and feed the poor. (Ahmad)



Guarding against Slander and Abuse

 None of my companions must tell me anything about anyone, for I like to come out to you with no ill-feelings. (Abu-Dawud)

 If you guarantee me six things on your part, I shall guarantee you paradise: speak the truth when you talk, keep a promise when you make it, when you are trusted with something fulfil your trust, avoid sexual immorality, lower your eyes and restrain your hand from injustice. (Baihaqi)



Boasting & Party Spirit

 The one who is most honourable in Allah's estimation is the pious. (Bukhari, Muslim)

 Allah has revealed to me that you must be humble, so that no one boasts over another, or oppresses another. (Muslim)


Discarding and Severing the bonds of Friendship

 It is not allowable for a man to keep apart from his Muslim brother for more than three days. The better of the two is the one who is first to give a greeting.
(Bukhari, Muslim)



Gentleness, Modesty & Good Character

 He who is deprived of gentleness is deprived of good.
(Muslim).

 I have been sent to perfect good character.
(Muwatta, Ahmad).

 Among the best of you [are they] who have the best character.
(Bukhari, Muslim)

 The believers whose faith is most perfect are those who have the best character.
(Abu Dawud, Darimi).



Tenderness and Mercy towards people

 Allah will not show mercy to him who does not show mercy to others.
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 "If anyone cares for two girls till they grow up, he and I will come on the Day of Resurrection thus," and he joined fingers.
(Muslim).

 "I and the one who takes responsibility for an orphan, whether his own kin or of others, will be in paradise thus," and he pointed his forefinger and the middle finger with a slight space between them.
(Bukhari).



The Excellence of the poor & the Prophet's Livelihood

 Seek me among you weak ones, for you are given provision from Allah, Allah will be satisfied with few good deeds from him.
(Baihaqi).

 O Allah, grant me life as a poor man, cause me to die as a poor man, and resurrect me in the company of the poor.
(Tirmidhi, Baihaqi).

 Abu Dharr said: My friend ordered me to observe seven things. He ordered me to love the poor and be near them; he ordered me to consider my inferior and not consider my superior; he ordered me to join ties of relationship even when relatives are at a distance; he ordered me not to ask anyone for anything; he ordered me to speak the truth even when it is bitter; he ordered me not to fear for Allah's sake reproach anyone may cast on me; and he ordered me to repeat often, "There is no might and no power except in Allah," for these words are a part of the treasure under the throne.
(Ahmad).


Hope & Avidity

 Allah loves the pious rich man who is inconspicuous.
(Muslim).



Anger & Pride

 The strong man is not the good wrestler; the strong man is only the one who controls himself when he is angry.
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 He who has in his heart as much faith as a grain of mustard seed will not enter hell, and he who has in his heart as much pride as a grain of mustard seed will not enter paradise.
(Muslim).

 When one of you becomes angry while standing, he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down.
(Ahmad, Tirmidhi).



Oppression

 Beware of the plea of the oppressed, for he asks Allah most high only for his due, and Allah does not keep one who has a right from receiving what is due.
(Baihaqi).

 If anyone walks with an oppressor to strengthen, knowing that he is an oppressor, he has gone forth from Islam.
(Baihaqi).



The Prophet's (PEACE AND BLESSINGS OF ALLAH BE UPON HIM ) Character

 If anyone of you sees something objectionable, he should change it with his hand, but if he cannot, he should change it with his tongue, and if he cannot he should do it in his heart, that being the weakest form of faith.
(Muslim).

 None of you [truly] believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself.
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 Fear Allah wherever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good deed and it will wipe it out the bad deed and behave well towards people.
(Tirmidhi).

 Righteousness is good morality, and wrongdoing is that which wavers in your soul and which you dislike people finding out about.
(Muslim).

 Each person's every joint must perform a charity every day: To act justly between two people is a charity; to help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it is a charity; a good word is a charity; every step you take to prayers (i.e. on your way to the mosque) is a charity and removing a harmful thing from the road is a charity.
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 Allah has written down the good deeds and the bad ones. Then He explained it [by saying that] he who has intended a good deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as from ten good deeds to seven hundred times, or many times over. But if he has intended a bad deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he has intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down as one bad deed.
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 Do not envy one another; do not inflate prices one to another; do not hate one another; do not turn away from one another; and do not undercut one another, but be you. O servants of Allah, brothers. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he neither oppresses him nor does he fail him, he neither lies to him nor does he hold him in contempt. Piety is right here-and the Prophet (peace be upon him) pointed to his breast three times. It is evil enough for a man to hold his brother Muslim in contempt. The whole of a Muslim for another is inviolable: his blood, his property and his honour.
(Muslim).



HALAL & HARAM

 A time will come when people will devour usury, calling it "trade."
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 Avoid three abominable acts (that is, the one who does them is cursed by Allah and by the people): defecating in streams, defecating on roadways, and defecating in shaded places.
(Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and Hakim, and classified as sahih by Baihaqi).

 Actions will be judged by intentions, and everyone will be recompensed according to what he intended.
(Bukhari).



Clothing & Adornment

 Cleanse yourself, for Islam is cleanliness.
(Ibn Hayyan).

 It is better that a person should take a rope and bring a bundle of wood on his back to sell so that Allah may preserve his honour, than that he should beg from people, (regardless of) whether they give to him or refuse him.
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 When a Muslim plants a plant or cultivates a crop, no bird or human being eats from it without its being accounted for as a (rewardable) charity for him.
(Bukhari, Muslim).

 If anyone plants a tree, patiently protects it and looks after it until it bears fruit, Allah the Mighty and Glorious will count as charity for him anything for which its fruits are used.
(Ahmad).

 An honest and trustworthy merchant will be with the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs.
(Hakim, Tirmidhi).

 Among lawful things divorce is most hated by Allah.
(Abu Dawud).

 Anyone who has two wives and does not treat them equally will come on the Day of Resurrection dragging one part of his body which will be hanging down.
(Ibn Habban, Hakim).

 Allah will ask every caretaker (ra'iy) about the people under his care, and the man will be asked concerning the people of his household.
(Ahmad, Nisai and Abu Dawud).

 Allah the Almighty has said: O son Of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it (NOTE 29)
(Tirmidhi).



ETHICS

 The Prophet (peace be upon him) use to say: "The best of you are those who have the best morals.
(Bukhari)

 Mu'aviyah ibn Jahimah reported, Jahimah came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I intend that I should enlist in the fighting force and I have come to consult thee. He said "Hast thou a mother?" He said, "Yes." He said: "Then stick to her, for paradise is beneath her two feet.
(Nisai).

 Abu Huraira said, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The most perfect of the believers in faith is the best of them in moral excellence, and the best of you are the kindest of you to their wives.
(Tirmidhi).

 Anas said, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Help thy brother whether he is the doer of wrong or wrong is done to him." They (his companions) said, "O Messenger of Allah! We can help a man to whom wrong is done, but how could we help him when he is the doer of wrong?" He said: "Take hold of his hands from doing wrong."
(Bukhari).

 Anas reported, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Do not hate one another and be not jealous of one another and do not boycott one another, and be servants of Allah (as) brethren; and it is not lawful for a Muslim that he should sever his relations with his brother for more than three days."
(Bukhari).

 Ibn Abbas said, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "He is not of us who does not show mercy to our little ones and respect to elder ones.
(Tirmidhi, Mishkat).



SAHIH AL-BUKHARI (The Book of Knowledge)

 Narrated Abdullah bin Masud (Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (1) (The first is) A person, whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (2) (the second is) the one whom Allah has given wisdom (the Holy Quran) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others."



THE BOOK OF BELIEF (FAITH)

 Narrated Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Apostle (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said, "If anyone of you improves his religion then his good deeds will be rewarded ten times to seven hundred times for each good deed and a bad deed will be recorded as it is."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol 1).

 O my people! You have certain rights over your wives and so have your wives over you. They are the trust of Allah in your hands, So you must treat them with kindness.
(Muslim).



Women in Islam

 According to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, the Prophet is reported to have said; "If a daughter is born to a person and he brings her up, gives her a good education and trains her in the arts of life, I shall myself stand between him and hell-fire.
(Kanz al-Ummal).

 According to a report from Abdullah b. 'Umar, the Prophet (peace be upon him) declared: "The whole world is a thing to be made use of and the best thing in the world is a virtuous wife."
(Muslim).

 Ayeshah, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), reports: The Prophet (peace be upon him) of Allah said: 'The best of you is he who is best to his wife.'
(Tirmidhi).

 A report from Abu Hurairah says: 'No believer should be angry towards his wife. If some of her qualities are displeasing, there will be many other qualities worth appreciation.'
(Nail al-Autar).



Almsgiving (ZAKAT)

 Said the Prophet (peace be upon him): 'The most meritorious form of Almsgiving is the effort to help a poor man, made in secret, by one who is himself of little means.'
(Ahmad).

 Seven will Allah shade on the day when there will be no shade but the shade of His Throne: one of them is a man who offers Alms without his left hand knowing what his right hand has given.
(Bukhari, Muslim).



Status of Women in Islam

 Paradise lies under the feet of the mother.
(Nasai).



Acquisition of and Imparting DEENI Knowledge

 Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The noblest charity is that a Muslim acquires some knowledge (of the Deen) then imparts it to a brother Muslim."
(Ibn Majah).



Taking special care to fulfil the Rights of Muslims

 Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "A Mu'min (Believer) is the repository of love. There is no goodness in a man who does not have love for anyone nor does anyone love him."
(Ahmad, Baihaqi).

 Hadhrat Anas (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Seventy three acts of pardon (Maghfirat) are recorded for a person who aids a man in difficulty. Of these (seventy three pardons) one is sufficient for the rectification of all his affairs. The other seventy two will serve as means for the acquisition of lofty stages in the Aakhirah."
(Baihaqi).

 Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whenever a Muslim visits a sick brother (Muslim) or merely goes to meet his brother, then Allah says: 'You are holy; your walking is holy; you have arranged your abode in Jannat.'"
(Tirmidhi).

 Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "refrain from suspicion. The worst of lies is suspicion (thinking ill of others on mere supposition). Do not pry into the private affairs of others. Do not bid a higher price (for any object of sale) with the intention to deceive (and not to buy). Do not have jealousy for one another nor entertain malice for each other. Do not back-bite (gheebat). Fear Allah! All servants (of Allah) should live like brothers."
(Bukhari, Muslim).



Abstaining from Sin

 Hadhrat Ka'b Bin Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad said: "Two hungry wolves let loose in a flock of sheep do not cause so much damage to the flock as does the love of wealth and vanity to one's Deen."
(Tirmidhi, Darimi)

 Hadhrat Ibn Abaas (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "When khiyaanat (abuse of trust) becomes rampant in a people, Allah Ta'ala overwhelms their hearts with fear. A nation perpetrating injustice will be overpowered by its enemies."
(Malik).

 Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "A sincere repenter of sins is like one who has not committed sins."
(Baihaqi).


AN Interactive
